I'm trying to learn C# and VBS. I've downloaded/installed the five VS programming tools, and have purchased several "how to" books, which came with CDs containing lesson samples, which I've also installed. The lessons in the books always begin with invoking VS, selecting the language of interest, then opening the topic lesson from the CD.
My installation of the VS suite resulted in a desktop icon for each tool (C#, VBS, etc.), but no VS icon. Learning how to navigate around the VS suite is being blocked because I'm unable to synch up the C# examples with the author's instructions to always start with the VS icon.
Where/what do I need to download/install from the MS site to create the VS umbrella over each of the suite's tools?
The environment: Windows XP-Pro (2002 Version) SP2.

I'm confused, did you install Visual Studio Standard/Professional OR did you download and install each express edition (Visual Studio C# Express, Visual Basic Express)?
I also changed your username. It looked like an email address and was pointing at my domain, which I didn't like.

Well seems like he installed "the five VS programming tools" so I guess he uses the express editions.

nullbyte is right. I downloaded the five VS 2005 Express tools. The way I downloaded/installed them may be causing the problem:
I have but a dial-up connection at home, so I downloaded-to-CDs each of the five tools via my at-work connection. Then I installed each tool on my PC, without accessing the 'net, at home. I didn't see a "Visual Studio" option to download.
Mainly because of all the malware gremlins, I don't let my home PC on the 'net .. I use a Mac there for 'net access.

Then there is no way to get the Visual Studio Project Selector that you want. That only comes with the Standard or Professional editions (and enterprise or whatever other versions they have). You will need execute each executable when you want to create a project using that tool (C#, VB, C++, etc).
I believe that is what you mean when you say the VS Umbrella.
