I downloaded "Total Video Converter" and I can't get it to convert the video files from my DVD into a common format such as WMV, MPEG, or AVI, or into sound such as MP3 or WMA, which it says it can do.
I'm not sure what the problem is. Thte files are in a form called ".IFO" which I could only get to play on InterVideo WinDVD, and nothing else.
I'm trying to convert it so I can upload (part) of it on to YouTube, but nothing is working. So, any advice is greatly appreciated.
What is a really good DVD/video converter?

Most DVDs are encrypted. You will need a DVD decrypter before you can convert the files.

First you need a dvd decryption program. These are illegal in the United States still I believe, you may be able to get a legal version if it is strictly for backup, but I'm not sure.
Then you need to convert the vob files into mpg. the other files don't matter, they just index the chapters. The audio_ts folders are completely useless and I still have no idea why those are included on most dvds.

I think this is due to the video file you added. In fact, file in VIDEO_TS.IFO is not real video. What you should do is to add files in vts_x_x.ifo format such as VTS_01_0.IFO which contains the video.
However, I am not familiar with the program you mentioned. I think the best way is to contact their support center via email to get help.
In fact, what I am using is another program: Pavtube DVD Ripper. It converts DVD to AVI, DIVX Video, XVID Video, MPEG, WMV, MP4, etc. I prefer it as its after-sale service is good.

Yeah, I agree with you too, pavgater01.
I am also a Pavtube DVD Ripper user. Last month, I encountered a problem and sent it to them, they replied and solved my problem on time.
So I think when choosing an appropriate program for ourselves, we should consider not only its quality, functions, but also its after-sale service.
Moreover, there is a Video Converter named Pavtube Video Converter to convert between popular video files.

So if you have any technical question, why not send it to their support center directly?

I have used DVD XCopy in the past and it worked very well for me. However, I used it when I was away with the Army so the only machine I had was my laptop. Needless to say, my drive burned out rather quickly and it was an expensive replace. But like I said it worked great
