What would be the best

hello Folks

i am trying to write a program that will recognize when data is being recieve through the com4 port. i am not what language would be the simpliest and the least about of code. If anyone could give there opinion and even any starter ideas it would be greatly appreciated

It will depend a little bit. C++ alone could be messy, but with the appropriate API/library could be simple. What operating system will this be on? It affects which languages are available.

I would see what some of the .NET people have to say, but I suspect any .NET language will provide reasonably easy access to the com ports.

Any of the .NET languages could do this fairly easy (Visual Basic, C# or C++). You can use the System.IO.Ports namespace to access com ports fairly easy: SerialPort Class (System.IO.Ports)
