Hello,

I was wondering how expansive Eclipse is as an IDE. I am in a class that I use Ada, and I want to learn C++. I know that Eclipse is able to use C++, but how many languages can it use? Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks Sincerely,

BlackRoseAngel

Eclipse can be used for JAVA and C/C++. There are other tools available from them which aren't all about JAVA and C/C++. There is also some other add-ons like Zend Studio for Eclipse which is PHP, just do a search on google if you are looking for a language they don't support.

But I believe the C/C++ version is Open-Source AKA Free!

Eclipse supports all of these languages:

PDT is the free addon that Zend supports for PHP. Zend Studio for Eclipse isn't an addon but a rebuild of Eclipse with embedded PHP (and it costs $$).

The PDT addon is nearly identical (so I hear) but is free though. :)

It is for PHP in Eclipse. You can read more about it here: PDT Project

From that website:

Quote

The PDT project provides a PHP Development Tools framework for the Eclipse platform. This project encompasses all development components necessary to develop PHP and facilitate extensibility. It leverages the existing Web Tools Project in providing developers with PHP capabilities.

I like Zend Studio a lot. I use it almost 100% for PHP development now (I use Notepad2 sometimes).

I use Zend Studio 100% of the time now for any programming I do, since it is only HTML, CSS and PHP :D But I am getting some more Eclipse releases at the end of this month.
