It doesn't make much sense that Apple hasn't released their OS for all computers. Now that Mac OS X runs on Intel processors they could sell their Operating System for all users and abandoned the foolish "certified Mac" concept they have created. What better time to release an amazingly stable OS than when Windows has just announced the EOL of Windows XP and still has a big black eye from Vista.
My colleague, Johnnyboy, just published a blog about it: Mac OS X Leopard on a Dell? :
What do you think?
Apple releasing their OS

I've got Mac running on my Dell computer at home. I also have it running in a vmware session (if you read my latest blog). People are already doing it, they should just legalize it and make profit from it.

It makes it easier for Apple if they have a smaller hardware base they need to support. I think that's the main reason they aren't interested in generally releasing it. Plus, then they get to charge extra for the hardware :)

This is kind of what makes me angry with them as a company. Their hardware is the same hardware that is in PCs (ATI/Nvidia video cards, Intel CPU/Motherboards, etc) but they charge a ridiculous price for them when you could put together the same computer for dimes on the dollar.

That is my point! They pay overpriced fees because they don't know any better. They think Mac is better.
@Winged: I didn't fully read your post earlier. If you read JohnnyBoy's blog you'll see that he makes a valid point about support and hardware. Using a disclaimer that they will not support hardware issues unless it is a certified Mac.

Have you read about the lawsuit over a "cheap Mac" clone maker?

JohnnyBoy mentioned something about it but I haven't read anything myself. I'll look it up now though.
