Hi, I would like to make an image of a speaker appear as if it has sound coming out of it. I dont wont any sound to actually be heard but just to visually give an impression of sound being emitted from the speaker. I know that Flash could do this but something makes me think of using Javascript (if possible). Many thanks for any suggestions

The variety for this is enormous. It depends on how you want the speaker to look, and how you are going to portray the sound using graphics.

Thanks Xav, Im thinkin of either a very simple gif image with basic colours, dimensions etc. If im feeling adventurous I would try to make the image look a little more realistic and life like. Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

ps, the sound would either appear in lines coming from the speaker or else appear as a haze 'booming' from the speaker.

How about a GIF animation?

Thanks Xav,

How would one go about creating such a 'GIF animation'? If I created a 'before' image of just a speaker and an 'after' image of the speaker with the sound, then how could I join the two into a moving image? I could do it with flash but im not too sure if this would look good.

You need to use a GIF animation program. Try a Google search. You can add the images, set timings etc. Good luck!

Thanks for that Xav, I tried it but it looks a bit basic and juvenile. I think I can now rule out GIFs because they look pretty simple so now I would like to try something that looks more realistic. Have you any suggestions on which route I could take now?

If I was you.

I would do some work in Adobe Photoshop to start off with a beginning picture. Then create a few different pictures that look similar to the first one. So basically just edit the first one a little bit each time. Then use your gif animator and create a frame per picture.

Save it and then add it to your site. Here is an idea of what a speaker could look like.
