Problem with desktop items in XP

I have checked lock desktop item in display properties.After that I unchecked it and apply it.Then also my desktop items are locked.I am unable to get my previous setting.Can any one tell me solution for this.Thanking you in advance.

I believe you want to right click on your desktop and select don't align to grid under some menu, and also deselect lock desktop items to grid (or something like that) and that should help.

What was your previous setting? I'm not sure I understand the original question/problem.

I have done that by going to desktop property->desktop tag->Customize Desktop->Web tag->checked lock desktop items.
I have unchecked it aftward then also it didn't work.

What exactly do you mean by "locked"? That they cannot be moved at all?

Yes it should work .. Ok then do one thing.. Just do a simple windows restore is that do not works.. Restart your pc if its not working It would work then..
