Because I am aware of the existence of internet stalkers (I spent some time on sex-oriented IRC channels a while back). Also, 15-17 years ago I posted a bunch of stuff on Usenet forums under my real name that I am no longer proud of. Fortunately, a search on my real name turns up far more recent programming/math posts. If a potential employer wanted to check on me on the internet, I would prefer that they only see things that are positive about me. Knowing all that, I prefer to keep two distinct identities online, with my WingedPanther pseudonym kept distinct from my professional/public identity.

I remember 3.1415926535897932384626633832795... I can't be bothered to type anymore, I just learnt it one day. :eek:

It corresponds with how I naturally think. I sort of "Grok" math. Also, CS wasn't a very mature subject when I went to college, and the CS teachers at my college sucked.
