Anyone have an iPod Touch? I'm considering buying one next week (after the next keynote where they have a price restructure on these items). I took a look at one in BestBuy, applications loaded incredibly fast. It also has a built-in GPS that can be used for traveling which seems neat.
I can't get an iPhone because my work pays for my phone and service (but will not buy or support an iPhone).
What do you guys think about the iPod Touch though?

I'm not much of a gadget freak, so not interested by it.

I don't see why people dislike the iPhone - I'm actually impressed with it. As I am with the iPod touch. If I didn't have an already functioning iPod, I would have one of those too.

I was very impressed with it. I've heard two people, one said the service was awesome (best he ever had) and the other said it was terrible (worst he ever had). They were in geographically different locations though. Both said they loved the OS though. I'd love to have the iPhone but that would mean I'd have to pay for the service myself.
On a side note, I can't believe the iPhone has no tethering option.....

The smart phone that I should be getting tomorrow has no tethering option either, meaning I will still need a phone for internet and a phone for voice / light mobile web surfing :/
I have had the opportunity to use the iphone for an hour recently, and I love the operating system, but I don't like the service. Verizon has much faster service (evdo) compared to AT&T's 3g service.
As for the question of an itouch, I would never give up my pocket pc (soon to be replaced by a very similar smart phone). Pocket Pc can do anything that an I Touch can do with the necessary additions (eg. bluetooth gps unit, vlc media player, etc).
The bottom line in my opinion is, get it if you really want it and will use it often. :)

I have a phone that is a smart phone, however, it does not have bluetooth or wireless and verizon has locked the GPS chip with their software so I can't use google maps or anything similar. The iPod Touch has these and gets me away from IE mobile browser at the same time (which is crap). It also doubles up as an iPod which I can use in my car, at home, exercising, etc....
In the end, I believe I will use it often and for multiple tasks (browsing CC/TP, GPS Navigator, Music, Video).
I'm also thinking about doing development work for the iPhone/iPod Touch and selling the software.

That there is a good excuse to get one :) For all your reasons, I don't see why you shouldn't get one :P

lol, maybe that is an excuse. I am waiting until Tuesday. There is suppose to be a keynote and Steve Jobs will reduce the price of the iPod Touch because the new iPhone 3G (with 8gb) is only $199 while the iPod Touch (with 8gb) is $299.
