Hey guys, my brother is geting high speed internet and of course i get the job of shoping for every thing and seting it up. I usualy don't mess with hard ware. I set up my network and internet but it has been some time. I need to get a wireless router but it has to be cheap (and work decently) I was loking at the first one listed on this page: Newegg.com - wireless router He has three computers (two rather old ones and a laptop with wireless.) One will be conected via cat5, the laptop via wireless, and one via a wireless usb card. I was just wondering if you think this router would be up to the task. He also wants to set up his x-box 360 to it and i was wondering if some one could point me to a tut for that.

That wireless router will work fine for what you want to do.

Just make sure that the internet connection will connect through ethernet (cat5) from the connection to the router's internet port.

Other than that, follow the instructions in the manual to secure the wireless connection (highly recommended), and then change your password (once again, highly recommended).

Routers are now easier than ever to set up! And as Jordan said, ask if you have questions.

Don't go for the cheapest.. go for cheap, but not cheapest.. on of my friends got on of the cheapest he could find, and the router is not capable of cooperating with all the traffic of the PC's.

Thanks guys i apreciate the feed back. I don't know weather he will be doing wireless or using a cable for the X-box.

@TCM - yah the cheapest I found was $20 after shipping and it was pathedic (of course that is the one that my brother wanted but i told him no.) Thats why I posted here I wanted to make sure the router was up to the job.

My router of choice right now is the linksys wrt54G because it has the most power for the best price. Cisco parts exist inside of this linksys, and cisco is the most known name in networking ;)

Cisco Parts? How come they integrate cisco hardware in normal routers? Cisco made their own standards.. I thought they were not compatible with the standard routers..

Cisco has their own standards in most of their routers which makes them incompatible. However cisco grade components are incorporated into linksys routers that make them easily hackable (I won't go into that) to gain 2 mile wireless ranges. Its actually amazing what cisco components can do when utilized to their real potential :D And did I add they are much more reliable than other brand of wireless router I have ever used?

I can usually get a linksys on ebay for about 40 bucks shipped, that isn't bad for something thats reliable (compared to my old dlink routers).

And DO NOT forget to set up WEP or WPA encryption for your wireless network or your neighbors will be so happy that you got a high speed Internet connection.
