Or you could do that, but thats what I tried, the complications too much to worry about.
Downtime
Non static IP if your server goes back up, you gotta change your nameservers
Bandwidth
Space
Security
I did that for a while, it was ok to play around with. id never keep a serious website on it.

dnsexit takes care of non static ips with little ease, space and security aren't awful to take care of, but its really the bandwidth and downtime that are the problems with hosting your own site. Its much better to pay someone to host it for you, its one less headache that you have. :)

I had a website where users could stream music and upload mp3 files to it, it was hosted on my space pc at home. I have Earthlink DSL, I was down once or twice a day.. lol

I have a shoutcast server that users can use to stream music on, friends requested it so I just added it to one of my servers. I don't know how much its used anymore though.

im going to buy whmsonic for my server, charge users a $5 one time fee for it... I talked to the guys who made it, they said it actually streams very fast, sounds great, "better than an am/fm radio", I wonder if there is a way to make like mediaplayer or some other music player stream from my website... so you wont NEED to have my website open.
