I need different people's view on how Java knowledge helps nonprogrammers in all fields of IT. I don't know many people in the IT field so I'm hoping you all can give me your insight.
BTW, loving this site, I'm learning alot and it's helping me learn java just a bit quicker!

It depends heavily on the area of IT. For me, (as a programmer) many of the Java apps are handy, but I wouldn't choose it for a simple utility language. As it is, I know just enough Java to know I'd rather use a different language. Java just isn't a "quick utility" type of language, but programs like jEdit show its usefulness in powerful applications.

I would say a general programming knowledge, rather than a "Java" knowledge, would benefit anyone in the IT field. Depending on your position, it could help you in various ways. It may help a helpdesk personnel understand software better and software errors, for example.
