In this thread, just post about a ticket you have dealt with, either you sending it in, or you working on it... I have 2!
so Ill start..
Today I got a ticket about water spilling on someones laptop, so I called a fellow desktop support tech to go see how bad it was.. He called me back in shock and awe.. What happened was the air conditioning vent 2 stories above her broke open and spilt galons of water on her, her computer fried instantly, she is soaked, not a single thing in her cube is working.
Imagine that.. just working one second, the next you have a few galons of water spilt on you from 2 stories up.. lmao
Second one!
Tsarj and I worked together for Bank Of America, on a Print Optimization Project, and we were installing new printers. Well we thought all was going well, till we got an email sent to us from someone with a much higher pay grade, it seems that the IP of a common use printer had the same IP as a high security door, thus when someone would print, it would say it was printed, but it wouldnt print, instead the door was opening. This went on for a few months till someone put it all together and called us.
:)

I can't remember any that I've worked on. A fellow colleague (who has since passed away) had a help desk ticket to fix VNC on a machine. He got side-tracked and then returned to the task. The first thing he did was VNC into the computer. Once VNC'd in he couldn't remember what he was suppose to fix. Then it hit him and he burst out laughing.
I'll see if I can get ComputerDiva or JohnnyBoy to come post some. They deal with the Helpdesk system mostly.

I was with my friend Joe and the conversation with the guy he was helping went like this:
Customer: I have an issue, I am missing a file, and I need it back asap
Joe: What were you doing when this file when you lost it?
Customer: well I had it on my desktop, and I deleted it by mistake, I didnt see that I deleted it
Joe: Thats no problem, just open your trash bin, and it should be in there, right click on it and hit restore
Customer: i cant do that either, I emptied the trash can after I deleted the file
Joe: Why would you do that?
Customer: I was told i should empty it every so often.. can we get this file back?
Joe: If you deleted it, then emptied your trash can, there isnt anything I can do about it
Customer: How do I stop this from happening again?
Joe: Dont hit the delete key when you select a file you need, if you do, dont select yes, if you do select yes, dont empty your trash can right after. have a great day sir.
hahahaha

When I owned a web hosting business, one of my clients wanted me to install flash on the web server because he was having issues displaying flash movies on his website.

He could have gotten the file back. Undelete. When you click to delete something, it doesn't actually go anywhere. The first letter of the file just needs to be put back, and the file is restored.

Dude when stuff gets deleted, all that happens is that the computer knows that that memory is available. It doesn't go anywhere. It just waits to get overridden. Nothing actually happens when you delete something except the first letter gets changed to an underscore, I think. I can't remember for sure. But yeah there are undelete programs out there that will do it for you. In fact in the dos days, undelete was an actual command.

ok, I know that nothing is 100% deleted, but for the common user, yes it is. and is desktop support going to recover some guys .doc file if he was dumb enough to delete it and then empty the bin?.... no
And as for "just removing the first letter" unless you can find an article on this, im gonna call BS for now. But I could be wrong, I have been before (ask Jordan and John :P )

I know what I'm talking about. Multiple articles for you.
Smart Computing Article - Find Missing Or Deleted Files
Are deleted files really deleted? - CNET Computer newbies Forums
Deleted Files - PC World Forums
Also think about it logically, where is the data supposed to go? It can't just disappear.
That's why you need an overwriter to completely eliminate data.
