Ventrilo is better IMO. Just portrays your voice over IP (VoIP) to others and chat.

If it uses your IP, would PeerGuardian mess it up?

Anything Internet uses your ip. Your browser does. So does your instant messenger, a lot of other software too.

Dunno what PeerGuardian is, but it shouldn't "mess up" anything, because if it does, you should uninstall it, and trash it. :)
