Hello,

I freelance my Web Development services for a fee, and am generally paid quite good prices. However, I just cannot ever seem to stick with a solid website idea if I am making a website for myself. After all, I see so many websites fail that clients have made that it is just hard for me to focus all my ideas into one that would be successful.

But I recently came up with an idea that I believe could be very successful. I would create the entire website, etc. but I was just wondering if any fellow programmers would be interested in such a website. What it would be would be a kind of Wiki where programmers can get together to post ideas. I would have a format that you should post your idea in, for example it would look something like this:

Title:
Overview:
Funds: (would you pay programmers up front, would it be a split the profits kind of deal, or possibly open source)
Detailed Description:
etc. etc.

Of course this is not the final structure, just a quick draft, but you get the idea. This allows programmers to get together and discuss certain ideas, and then work together to create the next big hit.

Some glaring downsides I see to this:

1) Somebody may 'steal' your idea.
2) May attract a lot of beginner programmers who have tons of ideas for the latest MMORPG or Myspace clone

It may not be a wiki (I am not sure), and maybe just a sort of CMS where people can post their ideas. I also might provide each idea that starts development a kind of "Development Document" where the creator(s) can publish all the ideas for the project, etc. and only be available to the creator(s).

Does anybody think this may have a chance to be successful? This is just really a side project that I have in mind, and I am NOT looking to make any major income off of this, just really something for programmers to get together to discuss things.

Thank you for your input, if you feel honestly it won't work, please do let me know - I respect criticism and would rather not do any work than do tons of work only for it not to happen.
