What's the first thing that you remove, disable or uninstall when you make a fresh install?
I'll start:

Operating System: Windows XP
First thing I Uninstall/Remove/Disable: Disable Automatic Update
First thing I Install: Anti-Virus

Operating System: Windows Vista
First thing I Uninstall/Remove/Disable: Disable Sidebar
First thing I Install: Anti-Virus

Operating System: Any Linux Flavor
First thing I Uninstall/Remove/Disable: None
First thing I Install: Beryl or something cool

Almost identical to yours:

Operating System: Windows XP
First thing I Uninstall/Remove/Disable: Disable System Restore
First thing I Install: Anti-Virus

Operating System: Windows Vista
First thing I Uninstall/Remove/Disable: System Restore/Previous Versions
First thing I Install: Anti-Virus

Operating System: Any Linux Flavor
First thing I Uninstall/Remove/Disable: None
First thing I Install: nothing, I generally have everything I need.

Why disable System Restore?

Uses a lot of space (Previous Versions/System Restore on Vista used around 30gb for me) and consumes system resources.

Operating System: Any Linux Flavor
First thing I Uninstall/Remove/Disable: I go through all the directories and removes all scripts, programs, etc. that I don't need at the moment of doing it. I can always install them later on.
First thing I Install: The X Window System (usually using X.org)

First thing I Install: I don't really know, mine was custom built at the shop, so they installed things like anti-virus, anti-spyware etc.. so probably some game :D

Never had to yet :D This hard drive has lasted a few years now and is still working. Never had to format before this computer either :)

I know, I am quite lucky. :D I need to make a few backups of some things though :) We've had a few viruses but not bad enough that we had to format :D
