Hey guys, I have a few questions about programming in general so I just joined this forum right now to get some opinions, any help is appreciated.

So I just got out of highschool and im getting ready to goto university of houston. In my spare time im a pc gamer, i play games a lot. I'm generally pretty computer savvy, I figured of all things I'd like to be, I would want to be the one developing or programming games in the future. So I'd like to ask you guys for advice on what kind of skills and in which programs or what courses should I take if I for example wanted to be a programmer for Blizzard, or work on programming the next unreal graphics engine or something.

any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Well, obviously I'd recommend Computer Science if you want to be a game programmer, although I think some colleges might offer specialized game programming degrees. You need to be good in math and logic.

Team work skills, communication skills, strong background in math and logic (I would recommend one math-related class per semester - For a game programmer, I would become familiar with Euclidean and Non-Euclidean geometry, vector calculus, and the mechanics of rigid bodes [newtons laws]), strong foundation in Object Oriented Programming methodology (design patterns, test driven development, agile programming).Of course become fluent in a game programming language - C++ (?) and be able to create 3d models.

You do realize just because you play games and you 'figure stuff out', doesn't correlate to you being a game programmer, lol.

You realize that having a line through your name makes you look like a Noob don't you Meth0 what the heck ever waste my time typing that crap out is.

Dude I suggest you try DeVry. Last time i checked they had a program just for people who wanted to go in the gaming industry. The USA is greatly interested in training game programmers because of the worldwide appeal and saleability of games in general.

Go for it dude. It looks like its going to be a open future for the time being.

And, I think obviously, you should learn OpenGL and/or DirectX.
Hey, remember, if you want to code games, you need some years of programming experience, so be ready for some hard work dude :D
