Personally, I think that the asterisks that cover up cuss words should be removed from the site. People are exposed to all kinds of morally foul and disgusting things, so there really is no point in protecting people from seeing a 'bad' word. Most of the time people can deduct what word it is anyways. Also, sometimes they can't figure out what word was meant to go there and then the meaning of a sentence or phrase can become obscured. I think that they need to go, just wanted to hear some other opinions.

I definitely see your point but there is no place for this sort of language in any professional setting. While this isn't exactly the work place it is a place where there are all sorts of different people with different ideas about what is acceptable. It is better off to have a professional looking forum to all who visit. Same sort of idea as a dress code at your job; its probably not necessary but it makes for a much more professional environment and it keeps the complaints down:)

I agree with Gaylo. I also like that I don't have to see people cussing all over on the site, if you are afraid that some one will not understand what it is that you are saying due to the astrics then just Re-word your sentance so that it does not require foul language. Also keep in mined that children are on this site and in my opinion it is the sites responsibility to try to keep from corupting the young as much as posible.

It is the site's responsibility to keep from corrupting young children? I disagree. I don't see how you can say that it is the sites responsibility, something like that is the responsibility of adults in that young child's real life.

It makes the site look more professional if they don't show swear words. Almost all sites I go to, don't allow swear words. Your kind of lucky that they just put asterisks, this one site I go to, is so child oriented that is removes all swear words from a post, it doesn't just censor them.

If their wasn't a swear word filter, I probably wouldn't come on because I don't want to see people using bad words all over the place. Theirs better ways to express oneself then to use and it makes the conversation more fun. I grow up in a family where we don't believe in swear words, so I like online communities not to allow them.

As far as I know this is the only site I go to that censors swear words, as far as bulletins board and forums go. I think everyone should be mature enough to handle a swear word, it's just a word. I'm not saying that people should be calling people ******* ****heads or bastards-childs or anything like that, but sometimes in the course of a conversation a swear word fits in.

I know most people are mature enough to handle the word but it makes the site look more professional if people don't use them. I prefer sites that have a clean language because their more enjoyable.

I personally have never been in a situation where a "swear word" would fit in better than something else.

me neither. I probably would not come on if there were a lot of swear words. I use to be on an RP site that replaced cuss words with stuff like "fluffy bunnys" and "Turtle Shell" it was funny reading peoples posts

That's quite funny, I would love to read those posts :D I know i wouldn't come on if swear words were allowed. Their isn't any situation I can think of where a swear word is better than something else.

I like that you posted a poll and got members from the community to vote and post. For that I've given you +rep and, as always, I'll change the forum depending on the poll outcome.

I voted "go" although I agree with both points being made here. Although I don't see a need for cussing in the first place, I believe the user should have an option to enable or disable censors rather than have it always be enabled. However, this isn't a feature of vBulletin.

I also believe, if the censorship was removed, that excess cussing should result in a infraction and that cussing towards another member an infraction with more points (which would equal to an infraction ban).

If your going to remove the censors, maybe you could have a option foreach() user to have the censors in place for them. ;) You probably could make it so that users have a choice to have the censors or not.
