Hi folks,
Found this site looking for a particular project and was very impressed with the content I found here. I decided to sign up.
I have fairly wide (but not too deep) programming experience. I know essential BASIC (yes, I had to add that), C, C++, Perl, PHP, and some Java. I've played around a bit with JavaScript but can't say I 'know' it.
I've been coding off and on for about 30 years now. I started on my 8k RAM TRS-80 Color Computer with CASSETTE DRIVE. My current job doesn't require me to code a lot, so my skills have atrophied considerably. I'm hoping to brush up and learn C# in the process. Perhaps some of you will be able to help.
I currently work for Juniper Networks, Inc. doing security research and vulnerability mitigation - I tear code apart instead of putting it together. It's interesting work that pays the bills. I have a BS in Software Engineering, but the degree was somewhat of a joke - I learned very little coding whilst obtaining it - most of my courses involved project management or basic Information Technology, which was very disappointing.
Anyway, that's a little about me. I'll see ya folks online.

P.S. - "Autonym" means "Self-Named" or "Real Name". Since it's my handle, it's a bit of an inside joke.

Welcome to CodeCall, Autonym!
Nice, long, informative introduction. I like that.

Hey Autonym, welcome to CodeCall. Juniper makes a VPN client, do they not?

I'd normally not plug my employer's products - this is a coding forum - but since you asked...
IIRC, we actually repackage the Safenet SoftRemote IPSec VPN client that works for native IPSec VPN tunnels back to our Netscreen and SSG firewalls.
We do have our own, developed in-house, SSL VPN terminator device - the "Secure Access" line of products. You buy the Secure Access box and then web browse to it and it does the rest. The SSL VPN isn't a firewall, though, so you'd still have to buy one.
I used to work support for the firewall and IDP products a LOOONG time ago (thank GOD), which is how I know any of this stuff. Now I write attack detection signatures for the IDP/ISG/DI product line - similar to "Snort" rules.

P.S. - To clarify my first sentence - I *do* have pride in Juniper's products, I just don't want to appear to be a shill. If you want more details, PM me.

I tried to get a demo of SoftRemote. I'm running Vista 64 bit and need to VPN into work. We use Cisco routers but Cisco states they will not be making a 64 edition of their client (and the 32 bit edition doesn't install properly). According to SoftRemote staff their product works fine with Vista 64 bit and Cisco however, they don't offer a demo. My boss was unwilling to pay the price of the software without some verification that it would work. So, I'm stuck using Virtual PC to start Windows XP and VPN to work.
Anyway, during my research for VPN clients I learned about Juniper! Glad to have you here.
