I don't know the temps in the laptop but the desktop usually sits at about 30-33 degrees in the case with the CPU (Pentium D950 3.4Ghz) sitting at between 38 (idle) and 42 (100% load) degrees.

I'll have to check the laptop temps tomorrow :)

Most new computers have it built in, but you can always do the good old fashion turkey timer to get the temperature :D

Well, mine doesn't have it built in, so... turkey timer time. :)

They usually have a temperature gauge under "PC Health" or "Hardware Health" within the BIOS. (This depends on the type of BIOS software used however...)
Motherboard manufacturers tend to offer an application to run in Windows which does a similar thing (as Asus do for my motherboard called Asus Probe 2).

I wouldn't know where to start testing the temperature on the laptop though...

There is always this application which seems to work quite well. It does say on the site though that it may not work on Dell laptops so they have issued an alternate release it seems for that reason.
Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) - Homepage, Downloads, Help, Docu, FAQ, News - www.pbus-167.com

Intel also have an offering: IntelĀ® Desktop Boards - IntelĀ® Active Monitor
It does say it does not work on all motherboards though (edit: it does say Desktop Boards too...)

My Sony is pretty poor at dissipating (sp?) heat in comparison to my old Toshiba though I think. The CPU is sat at 1GHz (it is a C2D T5500 1.6GHz) and is at 50 Degrees... it is on my lap though.

I often go on CPUID website to get the latest CPUID application, but had never seen it listed there!
Just grabbed it now, giving it a go myself :)

Thanks TcM
