Hello all,
I'm new here to this site and I'm also new to Joomla.
It's been about 3 weeks now using Joomla and I'm getting the hang of it. It does have quite a learning curve to it. But in due time, I'll know Joomla from inside out.
I have many web sites that I'm converting in to Joomla sites and I'm learning something new everyday.
Hopefully I'll be able to be of some assistance to the team here if needed.
Looking forward to talking to you all.
Kevin

Hey Walkman, welcome to CodeCall! Joomla! is a good CMS but it does have some quirks that I'm sure you will come to hate :). Do you know any programming languages?

Currently I'm trying to learn XML, Visual Basic, Javascripts & Java.
There are a few applications I'm wanting to design. I've started on them, but too many websites I'm working on has hampered my time into devoting fully to it.
I really want to get involved with XML. I know html, databases, mysql, php and perl, but not enough training to help me get my projects completed in a fast enough time. I'm talking about the programming part.
Once I build up a steady income for myself, I'll be able to afford to do programming full time. I like html and web designing, but I'm now to the point where I would rather someone else do that for me. I want to do more of the programming part of things, yet not have to put 100% into designing.
I've been only using mysql, php and Apache for 4 years now. I did teach myself how to install Apache servers. Now I need to know how to create virtual servers because when I do set them up, I have plenty of domains to work on, but I have to manually create folders inside of my root folder of the servers, which is not how I should be doing things.
I use Dreamweaver 8 and I know it pretty good. I also have plenty of video tutorials and ebooks on just about every tool/software that I use, but because I'm a one-man operation, with dozens of domains to work on, I find myself not concentrating on one project.
But personally, Joomla have seemed to make a difference in getting my work completed much faster (once I fully understand how to structure everything), and much easier to move things around. I know I'm going to have issues with it, but I am a good learner and I know how to research and ask questions the correct way too.
All in all, I feel like I'm getting closer to my goals, but it seems at time that the pace has gotten slower. I'll be much more productive once I can afford a partner. I've been doing all of this for 8+ years now all by myself.
I don't quite want the easiest/fastest way to do my Internet projects, I just need smarter/faster ways. The good thing is that no matter what I work on, I have the confidence in seeing it through to the end. I haven't once, in 20 years working with computers given up on anything involved with it. Not once.
