Hey everyone,
I joined this site to hopefully learn a few things. Im pretty new to programming (have had some java, vb, now learning php). It looks to me like there are tons of resources and I hope this place can help me out.
One question though. Since Im just about new to it all, is there a place that has a good article about ALL languages, their purpose, what best used for (I know "best" really depends on the person in some cases), and just the basic purpose of the language. Like I said I'm new and just trying to figure out all the different types of languages and what they are used for. Im interested in everything from application development to web development. The other day I was working with some php and my friend was trying to explain to me how to write in javascript to collect variables and post in a url (working on a payment processor for e-commerce site). Im just confused on the purpose of each language and how it can all intertwine with each other.
Any good intro articles like that?
Best Regards,
Kris

Welcome to CodeCall, xtrec02!
To follow up on R-G's post, I'll post some links with all kinds of programming languages, and not only languages for web-development which R-G provided with his link.
Alphabetical list of programming languages
List of programming languages by category
Timeline of programming languages
Generational list of programming languages

Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it. I'm a member of a car forum and they usually bash the noobs for not searching for articles or threads. Thanks for being kind.

I agree in this matter. I know many digital communities that are very good, but unfortunately have a lot of unkind people, this is one of the main reasons I like it here.

Hey xtrec02, welcome to CodeCall. I thought there was an article on here somewhere that listed which languages do what and what to learn first. It was by WingedPanther. I can't find it though.

I don't think there is an article that encompasses every language because it's just too much information, but if you read many articles, that would help out.
