Here's a personal PSA for all the academics - I just nabbed MS Office 07 by staging an elaborate heist. But I need not have done so - apparently it's only $75 for us academics now. And I spent at least $200 in special glass cutting diamonds. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang.

It's double price over here in the UK. Count yourself lucky.

I was briefly exposed to MS Office 07... and didn't like it. I'll stick with OpenOffice.

But the ribbon looks nice, doesn't it?

Actually, the ribbon is a major part of what I don't like about it. Why change a paradigm and force everyone to get retrained just to type a memo?

I ended up getting it and I really dig the ribbon. It seems to make life easier.

Exactly my point. Microsoft seems to get an unusually large amount of critisism, but sometimes it's successful. Take Vista, for example. It might have a few compatibility issues, but many people have used it happily and productively. :)

I use Office 2007 and it was it took me a while to get use to the ribbon. I still can't find things that were very easy to find with the old file menu style. I suppose the Office 07 look and feel fit perfectly with Windows Vista though.

If you've never used Office before (yeah right) it's easier to adjust to it.

I would agree with that.

The only problem is, everyone's used Office before - unless you're one of those obsessed open-source junkies that's never enjoyed the benefits of Microsoft... :D
