Well I have a desktop pc and a laptop, and one router. both the computer and the laptop are connected to the router, so my question is.... how can I share files between them?
I tried enabling shared folders etc, and read some tutorials online but did not find an answer.
Thanks.

You need to share folders on each (or just one). Then figure out the IP address for each. Goto start/run and type 'cmd'. Once the command prompt Window is open type 'ipconfig'.
Get your IP address. Then goto your other computer. Start/run and type '\\ip-of-other-computer' and press enter. You should see all of the shares you enabled.
You can also use Network Manager which "should" find all of your networked computers but it often does not work. If you have problems connecting to the other computer try to ping the computer and make sure you have a connection to that computer.

If your router kills ICMP packets it usually hurts autodiscovery.
