I know that this is not going to help me right now as I am already a victim of theft. My wallet has been stolen and I have lost all my important documents that even included my financial details. I fear that they may be used to make my accounts drain. I have already taken the necessary steps for this but this is going to be a real danger in future as it is sometimes too late and by that time everything is gone. I wanted to know that if there are any pre-steps that we can take in case of wallet theft?

This is an odd post and in the wrong section. * MOVED *

I don't understand why you kept account information in your wallet. That was not a smart move. What kind of documents did you keep in it that you can not get again (IE, I keep Drivers License, ATM Card, and some gift cards in my wallet)? Cancel your cards and start over. Not to big of a deal.

Contact a Credit Reporting agency (such as Equifax) and place an alert on your account. I had to do this a while ago when a former employer had some records stolen. They will set up the same alert for the other agencies.

Credit cards can be used to steal your money from an ATM (if pin code is known) and even if he tries to use it in a shop, after a certain limit they ask for ID.
Anything else like your deposit book or any documentation of the bank is useless if he cant prove he is you,not even a blank check !

Block credit cards, freeze all transactions of the accounts, move money to different account and close them.
I doubt if he uses info like your account number to get anything from the internet coz that would be dump.

I have a small wallet where I keep:ID,university ID,driver license,pre-paid card,video store card,gym card and my classes timetable.
Serious money goes in the pocket and wallet is for change and condoms :D !
I would be more concerned about my ID coz I have read that some people use them to publish passports or open new accounts and stuff.
