Well I am leaving my laptop on for long hours, for example by the time I'm writing this it has been on for more than 30 hours. Am I doing something wrong? I mean this is a laptop and I don't think it was designed for such long hours.

I there anything wrong in letting it on? And on I don't mean as idle... I mean I play big games like pro street, cod4, juiced 2, and at night i let it downloading, I downloaded like 10GB.

Considering I haven't shut my laptop off (except for updates) since I bought it (1-2 years), no. As long as the machine's air vents aren't covered, it was designed to run for extended periods of time.

Other than an occasional reboot, my laptop is always on too.

If it gets toasty, you may want to get a laptop fan for it. Other than that, I see no problem.

My wife, an electronics expert, says you are stressing it. Laptops frequently don't have the ventilation to keep them cool enough to not damage the chips.

I've always believed that laptops need to be shutdown more frequently than desktops simply because of the compact space and low flow of air ventilation. You should use your desktop for download so that it at least gets the night shift off.

Well after a night of downloading etc.. it is quite cool, and It has a fan at the back and at the bottom, plus it has quite a good amount of holes for ventilation (I can even see some of the chips on the mobo)

^Well, the thing is that i study in a university that is in a different town of my own (about 250km away) so,when my first series of exams were done i had no reason to stay for the second one(we get 2 shots to pass a class) so i went back home to Athens but a DSL line is a terrible thing to waste so i put up a big list of torrents in that i also updated via a wonderful thing that is called remote access !

Yeah, a pretty good idea :)

But don't you think that it will need a reboot from time to time?
