I've been working on a set of RealBasic classes that allow you to use a unified event-driven interface to work with multiple protocols.

At the moment, it supports MSN, IRC, FTP, and OSCAR(AIM, IRQ doesn't work somehow o.O)

Anyways, it'll eventually be ready to use, and I'll post it here. However, a working (and abandoned) MSN example project (source only) can be downloaded from:
