My wife just got her Eee PC, and I have already decided that this is the ultimate example of a Linux box that anyone can just pickup and use. Even better, it literally fits in her purse! Has anyone else played with these? If not, it's a nice basic computer.

I think the specifications are quite low. But seems good for people that seem nothing powerful.

I've heard they're planning Intel Merom-based ASUS Eee PC that it will be so efficient it won't need a fan. So I guess it will be thiner or smaller in any way. What I don't like it's the big boder around the screen.

I've never heard of one of these until now. Looks neat! What is your wife going to use it for?

She's using it for typing her school papers, etc. She writes a lot of fan-fiction, etc. Since she doesn't play many games, it works well for her. She can sit in a coffee shop and browse the web and work on writing.
She has another computer at home that's more powerful, and I have a gaming rig/coding box at home. I'm tempted to get one myself to use as a "real" pda type device.

Hmm seems pretty neat to suit that job.. but I'd stick with my PDA.

We spent part of Sunday installing Backgammon, Chess, and Go on her computer. Now she has her favorite games on it :)

I want one of those Eee PC. They look really cool. I heard the OS use tabs for organizing applications, is that right?

I wouldn't mind having one either. Not quite sure what I would use it for or if I would even use it past the first week but its one of those geek items that I just want. :)

The default desktop uses tabs to organize them. Imagine having the start menu laid out sideways with large icons for the executables/sub-folders. This is the sort of computer I could give my grandmother and she could just use it. If they made a version with a slightly larger keyboard, I would definitely want one.

The Eee sounds pretty cool. If you don't like the WM you can always install your own on it.

Aparently, if you don't get the Surf models you get the option of switching to a regular desktop environment with a simple option.
