I'm having issues reinstalling VC++9.0 after my computer died. Can someone please help me?

Here's the full story of what happened.

My computer was on the fritz recently (explorer.exe crashed whenever I tried running a program or opening a file), and fixing it required reloading Windows. All of my files and programs were still in place (more or less). When I started up Visual C++ 9.0 Express Edition, an error popped up saying that the entry point for a function (don't remember the name) was missing in some dll (I think it was msee.dll, but I'm not sure.) No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to work.
I uninstalled it, and the uninstallation program gave me a similar error, but with a different function in a different library. Either way, VC had been removed. I tried downloading and reinstalling twice from microsoft's website, but it failed for some unknown reason. Then I remembered I had downloaded the downloader/installer a while back, so I ran it. Everything went perfectly fine. It told me that VC had been installed and I needed to restart my computer for the changes to take effect. I did so. I logged back in...and there was no sign of VC++. It was gone.

Can someone please tell me what happened and how to fix it?

It sounds like it didn't add the executables to your program files? Check \program files\microsoft\VS9\ and double click the executable in there (it may not be \VS9\ but you can figure it out).

Is VS9 free?

Yes, it's free, downloadable onMicrosoft's website. As for the executables, there wasn't anything there. I downloaded the installer again and ran it, and this time it worked. Bizarre, huh?

While you're reading this thread, do you have any idea what killed my computer in the first place?
