So what exactly you want to do.. open gmail window and modify some settings?

I think is possible. Actually, I have seen applications that improve Gmail features. I suggest you to look for it, it's called Better Gmail. It uses the greasemonkey plugin on Firefox, which basically inserts javascript code into pages so you can have the desired functionality.
