I have set a goal to myself to learn java to an average level. I have read and searched the web for many days and hours. and im a bit tired of reading guides that write a lot but say so little.

i would very much like to study java in the simplest method of setting small programming goals and achieving them. mostly focus on syntax at start and basic programming skills with java - veriables and function manipulation etc.

the problem being i want to use an advanced and a bit complicated tool such as jdk 6 for small purposes at start. i am looking for a mentor that could help me figure out just the basics of writing small simple programs in java. from there i will take it on myself.
