What hosting plan would you buy, or if you had your own server what would you setup for reliable hosting, Linux or Windows?
I know that Linux is stable, but I heard that Windows 2003 (for servers) is not bad.

I always buy Linux and always will. Every 7 days we reboot our Windows 2003 servers at work. It is set on a schedule and if this reboot doesn't happen the server stops functioning correctly around day 8/9. Also, it is much easier to control a Linux server remotely using SSH. Once you are connected via SSH you have full control just as you are there and you can do this from a slow connection such as dial-up just fine. With Windows you would need to VNC or RDP control the desktop to have the same control.

But don't you think it's harder to manage?

Well, that is sort of my point, with SSH and full control of the system it is easier to manage.

No, I meant the other way round, isn't Linux harder to manage? With all that syntax? while with a vnc it's like the same GUI!

GUI is much slower and if you are like me you prefer to work with the console.

In my opinion Linux is just as difficult/easy as Windows - and in many situations when it comes to server software, I find it more difficult to configure on Windows than Linux.

Sidewinder, I thought it was they way round.. I thought that Windows server, like Windows is very user friendly, ie easier.

And you mean Linux isn't user friendly? It's as user friendly as Windows is, and probably even more friendly. Of course, it depends on the distro, but there's a lot of really, really user friendly ditros. One of the popular is Ubuntu.

Lol, Linux freaks me out.. I have tried a lot, and I mean a lot of versions, but I could not understand it.. lol. With that Konsole, scripts, compile and everything :S I could not even understand how the hell to install a program! the most friendly one was Freespire, but it was as buggy as hell.

Linux and Windows, both are efficient hosting platform. Linux seems to be better as it is open source. Therefore a lot of applications are supported and it also involves a user-friendly interface.
