For a lot of the spam robots, it would probably work simply because they are looking for an @ symbol in the mailto. Of course, if this became too common then they would be updated.

Well I am getting a bunch of SPAM messages and I have no idea from where it is going! I'm going to change my email.. let's see if it stops!

I doubt that this will become a highly used technology, since not many people are familiar with ASCII.

It wont stop existing spam, but it could fool any spam bot i would write...
If it gets too common im guessing spambots will start searching for @ and @...
