There are many ideas in my head that take more resource (free time) than I currently have. Being an environmental friendly person I have recently noticed the "green trend" from our major corporations here in America. With this in mind I believe my idea could easily be sold.
About once a month I check my mailbox (snail mail). A few days ago, while checking my mailbox, I noticed the amount of "crap" I receive. The main problem was the amount of coupons that I generally throw in the garbage. I kinda felt bad because I feel like a tree was just wasted because I don't use these coupons. Well how many people do the same as I everday?
My system would consider distributing credit card size cards that have a magnetic strip on them (much like credit cards). It would have a web based application or website where people could create an account (free of charge) and view coupons and assign them to their coupon card. This would in turn save many trees and organize your coupons onto one card. Department stores, grocery store, etc would have a card reader that can verify the coupon on the card and discount accordingly.
If anyone is interested, let me know.

Sounds like a good idea. The hard part would be getting all of the different stores and companies to switch to an entire new system and use the new card coupon system.

Indeed it is a good idea, I always find coupons a pain in the ***, but I always believed this was the intention. Just because the coupon says "buy one get one free" to you it is free, but someone else is paying for it. I think the pain-in-the-***'ness discourages the use of coupons and thats what the stores and companies want.
For a more concrete example, whats the point if a "mail-in-rebate?" Why can't I get an instant rebate? It's because the stores and companies know that a certain percentage will loose the rebate information, and another certain percentage wont bother to send it in, essentially "giving" money to the producers.
My only concern is that this type of system would make it convenient for the consumer (which is a good thing), but will piss off the producers - and those are the one's who have the choice of implementing the system. If it hinders them, I'm sure they wouldnt approve of the idea.

The one issue with this I can see is economic: the people who generally use coupons are probably the same people who do not normally use computers or the internet.
