There are many sites out there with which you can teach yourself web design. I remember years ago when I taught myself by using HTML Goodies Though the site has changed there are still many tutorials available to start your out.

I also like W3C Schools - W3Schools Online Web Tutorials - the world wide web consortium (W3C) is an international organization that works together to offer standards for many languages and technologies, so these guys are experts.

If either of these seem overwhelming you might try html.net - Learn HTML and CSS - Use our free tutorials - Build your own website | HTML.net - because the tutorials are very basic here.

You can learn a variety of languages from W3Schools, it is where I first learned HTML, or at least, some of it.

You could try a book too. I learned HTML and JS from a couple of books. Like said before there are tons of websites on the internet with helpful tutorials, that's how I learned PHP.
