These are the 3 basic steps to optimize your site
1. Find good keywords for your domain name
2. Use your 'target keywords' in your Title

I am an SEO and I will tell you something which is very useful.
I've experiment this and got very good result. IF you own a site then run a blog in the same site. Blogs are very friendly with Search Engines. It helps you to drive visitors.

It is basic thing of ON site optimalisation. Using keyword in title tag count most.
But do not ignore importance of OFF site optimalisation. In my opinion it is more import than ON site optimalisation.
Probably most import element by OFF site optimalisation is global link popularity of site.

Hey there,
Something I found really useful with yahoo browser is having keywords in the domain name and file names.
I had an incomplete webpage that I forgot to exclude by the robots.txt file and it now ranks #4 for a very competitive keyword.
Google has not crawled this particular page yet, so it will be interesting to see how importance these two factors are with the overall picture.

Keywords in the URL are the most powerful kind of on-site optimization, and then next is title, then header, and then I suppose the general text.
