Article submission is another great SEO technique.
Your can write an article and submit the article to several directories, that way you will get a lot of visitors and backlinks too.

One think I would like to add that there is some constraints regarding the no of links you provide in the contents it depends on the site where you are going to submit your contents like here can be only 2 or 3 links for the site in the content etc etc.. Otherwise your article will be in "Keyword abuse". You should also mind the keyword density in your content. These are some simple processes. Go ahead.

Article submission is great but same article posted on 100 article website will be seen as duplicates and ignored by search engines.
My opinion is to chose 4-5 most known article web sites and stick only with them or try to write so many articles and then submit each one to a max. 5 article website and then another article to another article websites etc...

Hi,
Duplicate content in article directories is an important consideration only when thinking about backlinks. You'll benefit from the backlinks in the first article that gets indexed by the search engines but it's unlikely the others will provide any backlink value BUT they can provide additional traffic from visitors to the directory they are in.
IF you write your resource box correctly, you will have 2 or 3 backlinks associated with EACH article you submit AND these backlinks are using keyword anchor text YOU choose.
Getting inbound links from high PR article directories with the perfect anchor text is sweet AND traffic well written articles generate makes it even sweeter.

This is not true. You will benefit from every single link you get to you site from distributed article. If you have a good article and people post it on their websites, then Google sees you as an expert on that topic, and you will benefit from free traffic.

This is an ongoing debate about duplicate content. It used to be that ALL links were counted and we benefited from them but the search engines are gradually cracking down and not recognizing the same article distributed across multiple article directories as worthy of counting the extra links.
IF your article is submitted to a directory and webmasters choose to use that article on their site, it is viewed differently.
I was referring to mass submission of a single article to 100 or more directories as being useful mostly for traffic.
I'm not part of any search engine but I consider these mass submissions as spamming the directories and would only acknowledge one for indexing. Yes this has value for readership but there are, in my opinion, better ways to get quality backlinks.

As I've stated many times, article writing and submission is the best way to get SEO, and even traffic if the articles are good enough.

I agree if the quality articles are unique and the resource box is fully utilized. A well written resource box can get you 2 or 3 backlinks to different pages on your website with anchor text YOU chose. These incoming links in the right article directories will not only be on topic but from high PR site.
How sweet it is as Jackie Gleason used to say.

Article marketing can be a great source of quality backlinks YOU chose the anchor text for AND highly targeted traffic. Unfortunately, too many people don't know how to target the right keywords to focus their article on to get the biggest boost of the right kind of traffic.
I also see too many articles that fail to have hyperlinks in the resource box that are active, have the URL hidden by quality keywords AND open in a new window.
