I started working as an intern and my boss wants me to write a program, I have no idea where to start...well, maybe a slight idea.

This is what he wants, if any of you can think of what language to use, something that can be learned fairly fast:

A task list/To Do list, more towards the visual side instead of textual. He wants it to update, so when a task that's coming up in, let’s say, two hours the task will blink or something attention grabbing, maybe a sounds, like a beep or ping.

I really have no idea where to go...I was thinking about Visual Basics or Java...but I don't know any of these languages! Anyone know any good online tutorials? Or even a book?

Thank you so much for your help! You're wonderful! =)

Visual Basic or Java would be fine. C# or C++ would also work. Visual Basic would probably be easiest to learn.

Why does your boss want you to create something that there are tons of? Just search google and you can find a lot of results. I know that Microsoft Outlook will do this as well.

I would go for Visual Basic. Usually I don't like languages such as Visual Basic, but it's easy for you to learn. You don't need to really get into the stuff you're doing, there's many great tools for this purpose, so if you don't want to learn a whole complex language, such as C or C++, Visual Basic would be the right way to go.

I'll agree with Crane, why don't you (or your boss) not just use some software, because there's lot of software that does what you're seeking.

Anyways, good luck, and welcome to CodeCall!

First off, thank you very, very much for responding!

Believe me, I know there are tons of those programs out there...he just want something more visual since he's a very visual person...if you know any good ones like that...I'd really appreciate a link and perhaps I can show him them. Oh, maybe this will help...think color coded by priority sticky notes, for example, blue means low priority, green medium, and red high...or something like that.

Thanks Frantic for the links...it just, I'm pretty sure my boss wouldn't like them, since they lean more to the textual side...but I do like that Active To-Do list...might use it myself! =)
