i had a FAT32 system with windows XP installed on it, and at a certain point i wanted to download one ISO files (which had 6 GB) so it gave me an error, as FAT32 doesn't support files bigger than 4 GB ... so i have decided without knowing that i'm making a big mistake, to change to NTFS, although i had XP installed on this partition.
now when i to format and reinstall windows with couple of system discs that i got with my laptop, its shuts down when it starts formating my partition.
will i be able to format my comp with a normal XP cd, because the ones i have are from my laptop (so they use different progs to do the formating ...) ?? :(
thnx for the replies

Interesting, I've never seen that problem before. Have you tried using quick format or formatting using a boot disk and skipping the format process during install?

i have system cds from my acer laptop, which if u choose to format and reinstall your hard drive, uses its own tool, not the one that XP uses, and i dont have an XP cd. And it shuts down when it gets to 4-5% (i've done it already couple of times before, and it always worked)

It sounds like your CDs are bad. Call the manufacturer and/or use a standard XP cd.

Well the best option would be to use a normal XP CD. Will save you a lot of time and should solve your problem.

k, will try tomorrow ...
but i have tried before to install ubuntu on my second partition which is still on FAT32, and the installation gave me an error when i tried to make a new partition out of it. could it be that my hard disk is malfunctioning ?

Well perhaps is it a problem with the FAT32? I have an NTFS and never had problems, neither with XP, nor with Ubuntu. But besides that, it can be your hard disk.. why not running some scanning tools to scan your Hard Disk for errors?

Search the net for fdisk. Great tool for drive repairs/formating/settings.`
