We are discussing over at mylot whether computers should be left to run all the time..I have heard two sides of the coin now..Someone told me it's good on occasion to turn of the computer and let it rest ..and another said they were told differently.

I thought if anyone should know the answer it would be someone here at codecall.net ..So, can anyone answer which is better..The computer on all the time or turn it off sometimes..

If you answer this..please tell me why..I will put this over on mylot...

In my opinion there is nothing wrong to leave the Pc on all the time, as some PC's were designed for this, if this was not good there would be no internet, as internet is just a network of PC's (Servers) that are online all the time to host your favorite websites :) like codecall (dedicated server). As for Home PC's well I don't know, but still I see nothing wrong as I usually let my PC on for a few days without rest.

I used to leave my PC on all the time before I bought 3 fans that run at 56.4 dB each :(

But I dont believe there is any issue with leaving a computer on, that has efficient cooling and all the parts performing 100%, of course with an occasional reboot.

I appreciate all the comments on this topic I can get.. I, myself turn it off.I was told it refreshes the memory and cools the fans etc.. I really don't know the right answer.

From experience and Techie advice. You should reboot your computer once a week, just to clear out the cache. But leaving it on for a week at a time, it should run at peak performance, bc you have all your daily things in the cache.

Mine is usually on for 14-17 days.

This is very true for any Windows machine.
I leave my computers on 24x7 and workstations are made for this type of thing.

Well for cache etc, there are some softwares that clean this, no need to restart your PC.

Their wattage is so low that the fans consume nearly nothing! I would not worry about them, worry about the monitor ;), just switch that off when not using it.

So what is it about the monitor that one needs to worry about?
