I know this technology exists already but don't know what it is called. I am told there is some software that allows you to speak and your words will be typed on the computer..Has anyone heard of this? What is it called and where can I get it?

Yup XP has it's own default one, you can talk with a mic and control the PC it's "speak recognition" co in the Control Panel click "speech" and go on the "Speek Recognition" Tab! there you go, start creating your profile etc.. etc.. because it need a little training so to recognize well your speech!

Other than the one already built into XP, I believe the two most popular are IBM ViaVoice and Dragon Naturally Speaking.

I've actually used one of them before; you practically have to read the dictionary out loud before it will actually work descent.

That is intestin that there is a typing method activated by voice. I guess there would have to be for the disabled?

Could be used by the disabled, but I sometimes use it and I'm not disabled so I don't think it's just for them only.

Exactly, it is very useful when it comes to huge contents. The speech recognition thing is very easy. Those who spend a lot of time in typing better to go for this. I use to type either from Microsoft.

I sure could use something like that..

Can you actually just talk and it will write for you? I mean I get countless emails..since I do my companies correspondance and if I could find a better way to respond..this would be Heaven.

If you want a good program, better than default ones that come with most new computers, you have to buy it. My friend's dad has a really good one that is nearly flawless, but to get it working you have to train it for 24 hours. However, it's better than the old version, which took a full week!

Do you have this program: Nuance? Or is it something you fell upon while surfing the internet?
