When someone buys a wireless router.. for use with a laptop that has the wireless option. Does it work with your regular cable service?

How does the wireless router work?

How does the wireless router work?

For example. Lets say you have a cable service.

So your Cable line goes to your Cable Modem.

Next the cable modem connects to your router Via Ethernet cord.

Next, since your laptop has a wireless card, the router sends and receives the signal to and from your Laptop.

Thank you for your very detailed chart of how to plug in the router etc.

Once the router is connected correctly, does it matter where in my house I take my laptop?

The laptop will pick up the signal in any room?

It should. But in my inlaws house. There is an Upstairs, main floor, and down stairs.

The router was Upstairs on one corner, and the PC was downstairs on the other corner. Didn't connect so well. But if your on the same floor. Shouldn't matter.

Why would you suppose it didn't pick up the signal? Was it because of the floors?

I had rented a laptop via rentway ..that was wireless..and I was able to open it up at all the motels I stayed at while on my trip home. One motel however opened up the net but it crawled!

Some Wireless routers use WiFi and I have used it from a laptop. Contact AfTrix here as he uses it very Often. He only has a laptop so, he uses the Wless Router when he come to my house.

Well, since you are wanted to use a Wireless Network, you got to consider both the devices The Router and the Wireless LAN card.

Both the devices should have Good Signal Strength, High Speed and High Bandwidth. You can move around your Laptop only according to the Signal Strength. It depends on the Blocks and all. Its just simple as connecting through the cable (( Only the media will be WiFi instead of the Cable))

Nope, then your dad must have gone for some special router to cost that much.
But normally a good one (such as US Robotics or 3Com) costs around 120$ to 150$ thats it.

Seems that you are having an tiptop router with you huh!!
