But i think Google and Yahoo are great avenues. But like always, the best way of advertising is Word-of-mouth.

Shareware and free ware sites, Blah waste of time. ** there are almost too many banners on here ;) But thats just me :-P Gotta pay for hosting somehow!

Considering you are on post number 8506. This may take a while.

Not sure what you mean. As I understand it, this will be post #3.

Best Promotion Method I think is content! Get searches from google as it will provide you with the most amount of visitors and paypack. How you get ranked high in google is another matter though. You can use link baiting to get link backs or simply buy them.

Oh, I forgot to mention. For software, Shareware/Freeware sites are critical! Not only will they produces results and sales but they will provide you with Link Backs, all free! This will help you rank higher in Google thus getting you more downloads and sales.

Shareware/Download sites bring me the most downloads so I would say that they are the best promotion technique for shareware!

Yup, for companies that do not have shareware this method isn't effective. I suggest advertising in the local newspaper, getting decal for your car and have business cards with your website address. All of these methods are effective offline advertising.

Google will drive the most visitors to you site unless you can get a link on a highly visited website somewhere but that costs $$

I do buy links which helps out a lot in both, getting traffic and ranking.

Check out http://www.adbrite.com for cheap linking.

Well perhaps making banners as signatures in forums?
Perhaps not so effective but might help a little bit!
