I was responding to my other thread about protecting PHP and it occurred to me that the administrator of a server can snoop through your files and database. Has anyone ever had a problem with an admin doing this? This would be very bad practice and bad publicity IMO.

Not only could they get your files, they could retrieve your entire database! and, if they wanted, recreate your site!

Yep, and the best part is, unless its a dedicated, they have every right to. You have no way of stoping them, but you can tell if they've changed anything by looking through the MySQL modification logs.

I thought when you bought hosting you were the admin of your own server, or at least other people couldn't look at it.

I had the very same thing happen to me ..that is having the admin changing and adding things to my site that was hosted on his/her server..I became so aggrivated I took my site off the server. I didn't know, though, that it was their right to go through your data and files!

If its the problem, we must change the host and that is the only solution and staying bad with an Admin is not good. and if we own the server, there will be no problem and I think paid hosting services may not snoop as it may reduce their sales for sure.

Whatever the reason if I found that my presence on a serve was opening me up for a hacker; I would quickly remove myself from the server. I don't think anyone has a right to your private information!

You are 100% correct and I agree with you.
But nothing in this planet is safe, Everything is endangered ( lol :) )
Including your information too, but many respect and safeguard those, So, think positive always and take security measures and make complaints, and lol.
