Where did Foo come from and why is it used to for variables? Its an odd word to be widely used in programming text-books.

That is how I understand it as well. Not sure how it made its way into programming text books though.

Its just content filler, for when your working on a web design and want to see what it looks like with all the content in :) Its tradition lol.
