Link exchange with websites related from yours, buy links in moderation, do signature advertising on multiple websites, place keywords you are targetting up high on the page, in header (<h1>-<h6>) tags, in title tags, and multiple times on your page. Almost a year studying SEO for that. Sad, really.

Make quality content designed for people (follow accessibilty guidelines and web standards) and the traffic will come
Slow and steady definately wins the SE race, black hat techniques pay off quicker but you always end up paying for it

Link exchanges help a lot but I get most of my visits from unique content posted on here.

On PC101 we've finally seen a move from 2/10 to 4/10 in the last 6 months. It probably could be higher but I'm content for as much as we've done so far.
I think having an RSS feed to the site helped too. It added content everyday which helps your PR rating.

I thought that using an RSS feed would actually hinder your PR??? Isn't this copied content? Do you get search clicks from your RSS posts?

Honestly, I don't know! I'll have to check.
I'd like to know if RSS hurts or helps. I was under the impression it helped. Shrug!

Wait PC101, I thought PR was determined solely on linking, not by content. How do you get an RSS feed anyway?

I think the algorithm for PR is more complex than just links, as in the type of links linking to your site and anchor text, etc.
I've always heard that copied content hurts PR rating and ranking but.... who knows!

PR is only links, content doesn't have anything to do with it. I keep adding unique content, but I wish more people would link to it.

Google is by far the most popular search engine available today for both ordinary surfers and webmasters alike.
Surfers like it because of the highly relevant results it gives and the speed at which it delivers them. This is due to its complex text matching algorithm and of course the Pagerank⢠system that this engine uses. More on the Pagerank⢠system later.
Google is popular with webmasters and Internet marketing companies due to the highly workable ranking system it uses.
Unlike other engines where information about how the results are obtained are sketchy at best, Google actually publishes information on its site about the results it produces. Hence webmasters have things they can do to produce higher rankings.
What also makes Google popular with webmasters is the speed at which they will spider and list your site. If you're not listed in Google and submit your URL you're usually indexed within two weeks. If however your site is already listed in the index Google should reindex once every month, but more frequently if you've a high Pagerank
