Has anyone ever seen any services like this: http://www.monsterwebpromotion.com/

and more importantly do they even work?

Won't use 'em, never will. I'm good enough at SEO myself, I don't need to hire someone. Not that my SEOing has worked... but that's because I targetted the wrong keywords in the beginning.

Hired SEO seems like a good idea for those that can't do it (which is most of us). I've never had the money to do it so I've only ever relied on my own skills.

Hired SEO is NOT a good idea. All you have to do is read a few articles about SEO and you can do it yourself. You'll probably do a better job than those companies, and save a lot of money.

Don't you own any sites tcm? If you really want it to do great, you have to do some SEO. Unless your idea is so viral it spreads like rabies.

I prefer to do my own as well. I don't think you can always rely on the SEO you are hiring. Unless you have done some extensive background search on the one you are hiring; I would do it yourself.
