Anyone used one of the two 3d environments out there?

Here is a cool video of it:

I've used XGL on OpenSuse, and it was indeed visually impressive. Unfortunately, it also crashed and locked up frequently on my ATI card, so it's something I'll let bake a little longer before looking at it for daily use.

There's an XGL LiveCD called Kororaa which purports to take the pain out of testing XGL. I looked at their first release, but was unable to get X started with ATI drivers. They're up to 0.3 now though, so maybe it's time to give it another shot.

Here's a list from the Gentoo forums of supported graphics cards.

I ran it on an Athlon64 2GHz, Radeon 9600 and 1GB RAM. It ran smooth as silk from both Suse and the LiveCD, until it locked up. :P

I'm going to check out Kororaa, it looks interesting. Here is the detail from their website:

Quote

Essentially, Kororaa is a binary version of Gentoo Linux.

For Kororaa we wrote an install script to go along with our install method which takes care of most of the manual configuring required under the Gentoo method;

The Kororaa build is derived from Bob P's Stage 1/3 install method;

Also, we have pre-defined a wide suite of KDE based (and now also Gnome based) applications for your use and designed the entire system specifically for these;

We have also added a large number tweaks and automations along the way to assist in the Kororaa experience.

That is amazing! I'd love to have something like that, but it lokoed like he was having some problems.

XGL/Compiz is nice. I'm using it now in Ubuntu 6.06

playing with the cube with dual screen monitors is crazy looking. so easy to set up if your card is supported.
