I've always assumed that flash is the best method for animations on websites because it is used so much, but it is truly the best?

Most of the time it just annoys me. I figure that animations are over-rated, though.

yes, I don't really like Flash unless it is a very impressive website (which most are just crap).

I like flash in small doses! It seem though that most websites go WAY overboard and there are a lot of people who don't have fast enough connections to even appreciate it!

To make the answer to your question short. Yes, it is the most widely and most professional animation program used today.

There isnt really another method of delivering animations without resorting to large filesizes such as gifs etc

I really don't like working with flash. I've never taken the time to actually learn it so I don't really care to use it. It does look very neat.
