Is it worth to pay to get into a directory? I mean, the lowest I've seen for paid is $9.95, and that's for one link. Do you think it's worth it, cause if it is, I think I might do one, but only one. Would it be worth paying for one?

There are literally hundreds of search directories, so my recommendation is that you submit to all those directories at first. If you still want to acquire more links from search directories, then you should start submitting your site to paid search directories. No reason why you need to start spending money right away.

Perhaps these paid ones have high PR?
That is the only reason I would pay.. but it would have to be PR7+ for me to pay.

There are only two search directories that are highly valued and respected, DMOZ and Yahoo directory. All other directories aren't that different, and as I said, I think it's better to focus on submitting your site to all free search directories. Once you do that, you can start thinking about whether you should submit to paid search directories or not.

And DMOZ is impossible to get into.. I think the people working on it sort of give preference to their own and their friends sites.
I just use general free directories and have found they provide enough baclinks.

I've submitted to hundreds of free directories and might move onto reciprocal directories. I don't think I'll ever pay to get into a directory though, I just don't think it's worth so much money for one link.
